Extend a Stay Decision
RV camping is a great experience for the whole family. Frequently we are nearing the end of our planned camping trip when we reach a unanimous decision to extend a stay much longer than we had planned on. Sometimes this is no problem at all if we are on a two or three day weekend quick camping trip and we have plenty of supplies and the holding tanks and hookups are all satisfactory. Even a longer summer vacation extend a stay can be handled quite easily even if it involves refilling the propane tanks several extra times during the extra days or weeks that we decide to add on. Once the family was gone from home and we had more time to travel we planned retirement style camping trips. These trips were truly extend a stay style we would stay in one location for two to six months at a time. If we knew that we were going to be staying for a long time we disliked the plan of purchasing several smaller propane tanks and sometimes that was almost a deterrent to how long we would extend a stay.
The other factor in choosing an extend a stay setup was when the grand children would come for the summer and we wanted the extra space outside our home for sleeping and other accommodations.
Extend a Stay Installation
If you want to install an extend a stay kit you have two choices. You can take your recreational vehicle to a dealer or service locations and have them choose the parts and do the installation. If you have never worked with gas fittings this may be your best choice so that you don't lay awake worrying at night if you got all the connections sealed tight (you can test all the locations after installation by putting a little soapy water around each fitting and look for bubbles). However if you are comfortable with a wrench and gas fittings you may choose to do the installation yourself.
